The Cats Pajamas

What a fun filled weekend it has been! Where to start? Well, Friday was spent out in Elgin, IL with my dear friends Nicole of BombshellShocked and Karyn of Dethrose Vintage. At booth number 10 we classed it up with our fine vintage, sweet as pie attitudes and radiant personalities. Plus each of us donned our 50s best in adorable dresses! Hopefully I can track down a picture of the three of us all dolled up.
In the mean time take a gander at what was seen at the show.

Isn't this girl darling? Her name is Megan and she is a milliner based in Chicago. Her etsy store is Blue Bow Millinery

9 year old Libby and her darling 7 year old friend who made at least 4 wardrobe changes throughout the evening! I loved that by the end of it she was in cute vintage heels.

Can't get over how adorable Libby is in her felt skirt and frames.

the always stunning Rose in head to toe vintage.

Oh and you wonder what I did with the rest of my weekend? Well a little band called Naked Raygun played with Dropkick Murphys.

While you have time check out my friends at the following shops...

Great American

What happens when you follow the yellow brick road too far? No we are not in Kansas, but instead on the shores of Southwest Michigan. I love Chicago dearly, but I also love escaping the city for some fresh air, antique shopping and a grilled cheese that rivals no other.
I was hoping on picking up quite the haul, but instead I walked away with half a dozen items. I am not disappointed though!
If I could fit more than my right thigh in this size 5 girl scout uniform I would have bought it. Too small though! Bummer.
Till next time

thinner than fiction

My husband often jokes that I “Play Barbie for a living” and 90% of the time I nod and grin. What I do is a lot of fun, I get to spend lots of money on fabulous clothing for affluent women and up and coming models.  I shop for real women and girls with bodies most women envy.

Now go back a sentence and realize that I said girls—bodies. The majority of the models I work with are not only well under the age of 18, most often they are 13-15, 5’10 and naturally waif thin. They are beautiful, vivacious and healthy. Let’s face it, it is rough being a teen in general, now let’s make you a girl that not only towers over her girlfriends, but also every boy and possibly teacher at her school. The taunting and teasing are bound to get rough. Modeling is a way for this girl to only feel pretty, but be appreciated for her height.

As long as there are parents to guide there daughters, I see nothing wrong with girls entering the world of modeling at such a young age. While yes there is peer pressure out there, but in reality the same amount of pressure is probably felt in any cafeteria around the country as there is on the runway.
In the 90s there were a lot of journal articles regarding the influence of thin models on the rise of eating disorders. While some studies suggested that there was a positive correlation between the two in my opinion the only relationship the number on the scale has in contrast to the amount of thin models one looks as it would be the disgust a particular person may have towards the actual obesity epidemic.

Ajak

Ajak Deng in ID Magazine.

This is by far my favorite look of the shoot. How fabulous is this?! That face, the body and of course the outfit. I love the dress can you say sadistic goes 50s? I just love this and of course pairing it with creepers just takes the cake.
